ONTARIO EDUCATION SYSTEM

E

ducation in Ontario falls under provincial jurisdiction. Publicly funded elementary and secondary schools are administered by the Ontario’s Ontario Ministry of Education, while colleges and universities are administered by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Ontario operates four publicly funded school systems. An English-language public school system, a French-language public school system, an English language separate school school system and a French language separate school system. The public school system was originally Protestant but is now secular and non-denominational. The Separate School system is Roman Catholic (open to students of all faiths at secondary level, they have the option of refusing non-Catholics at the elementary level) with the exception of the Penetanguishene Protestant Separate School Board which runs a single Protestant school.

UMC is helping me improve my English because of the good and friendly teachers that know how to teach. Because of the people here that I can talk to, I can improve my speaking and listening. And the way the teachers teach is the best way to make students interested.
Vinicius Suzuki, Brazil
"I have been learning in UMC High School for one year. It is awesome to be here with my friends and teachers. They are my second family. They come from different countries in the world such as China, Korea, Philippines, or Brazil. Beside what I learn in school, I can also learn other languages and culture by talking with those international students. UMC’s teachers are really friendly and nice. UMC’s the best choice for international student who has an idea to learn in Toronto, Canada."

Hello, this is Min Kyung Park's mother. I had no doubts or worries when first deciding to send Min Kyung to UMC High School because of the many good things I heard about the school's reputation. Although I also heard some news about the principal's strict reinforcement of school policies, I was relieved to hear that Min Kyung was adjusting to school life in Canada quickly. I am thankful to the school, seeing how Min Kyung is starting to take more initiative in her school work and having a good time with her friends. Also, I am proud of my daughter who is getting to know friends and classmates from all around the world, learning by sharing each other's cultures.
Park, Min Kyung (Grade 12), South Korea
